PART ONE: STASIA MIKOLAJKCZYK

Detective Sergeant Gabe Garshowitz is a widower with a dog for a companion. Detective Constable Iris Forester is his partner. A man’s body is discovered in a hotel fire in Toronto. A woman, Ruth Siegel, who was safe on the first floor is seen running into the fire. Garshowitz and Forester are assigned to find who killed the man and why the woman ran into the fire to certain death. Also rogue Detective Sergeant Simon Munz was seen at the hotel at the time of the murder. Gabe looks for a connection.

Harry Greco’s name comes out in the investigation. Greco is a known drug dealer. Colin Watson, Gabe’s good friend and RCMP undercover officer is after Greco. Iris is fascinated by Ruth Siegel and her weekly cell calls to Israel. Staff Inspector Guida takes the Stasia Mikolajkczyk Case away from them. Gabe resents that and decides to pursue the answers on his own. He is sure that narcotics are at the bottom of Stasia Mikolajkczyk’s death but doesn’t understand where Ruth Siegel fits into the picture.

PART TWO: MANDY JEWEL and ROSE YAEGER

Mandy Jewel, a little girl dies from a beating. Gabe and Iris are given the case. Iris becomes entangled emotionally, relating the girl’s beating to the physical punishment her father gave her when she was a teenager. The victim’s mother is a high price Call Girl. After being arrested, Child Care took her daughter from her and placed her in a foster home run by an overweight woman, a self-indulgent husband and a son who exhibits strange behavior. While pursuing the evidence, Guida gives them a case involving Rose Yaeger, a woman seeking to kill her husband. Both cases, although different have a common theme.

In the meantime, Garshowitz is following up information regarding Mikolajkczyk’s death. Colin Watson tells Gabe he is going to Florida after Harry Greco. The mission is dangerous. Mikolajkczyk was involved.

PART THREE: COLIN WATSON and . . .

Staff Inspector Guida becomes aware that Munz is going solo after Greco in Florida and asks Garshowitz and Forester to make sure he doesn’t embarrass the department. Gabe finds his dog is missing and suspects he’s been killed by Greco. They board a ship going on a 10 day Caribbean cruise. The 10 days are filled with attempted murders and a relationship with a female passenger from New Jersey. The case is solved and then not solved.

Garshowitz and Forester return to Toronto. The relationship with the passenger seems to have ended much to Garshowitz’s disappointment. Gabe Garshowitz expects Munz will take his anger out on him realizing he’s been made the fool. The conclusion is not what Gabe expects.
